Hey Lovies!! So, yesterday I engaged in my first guitar lesson with Larry Hoffman Music! I am extremely excited about all there is to learn about playing the guitar. We had an initial conversation about my overall goals. I expressed I would like to be able to improvise and just JAM! I also expressed my interest in learning music theory for assistance in composing and song writing.
The lessons were held in the Mt. Vernon area (which I love btw) and lasted for an hour. He asked me what I already knew. Surprisingly, I wasn't shy at all to show him my skills lol. I informed him that I knew a few chords very well (G Major, E Major, E Minor, A Minor, and C Major). He actually made me sing with the chords and expressed to me that I had not only a great voice but also a great ear for music.
Sometimes I would think my journey to my dream would be unrealistic or that I've started too late. To be honest, I made my career choice ONLY based on the money. Now I work my 9-5 and get a paycheck every 2 weeks and... it's... just.. UGH!! Now don't get me wrong, I am truly grateful for my job and the opportunities afforded to me, and I understand that I am exactly where I wanted to be 5 years ago; however, I need to find what truly makes me happy...Music.
Everything about music brings me such joy. I take apart every song and listen carefully to the composition. Most times I never even listen to the lyrics... just the music.
I am saying all this crap to express to each and every one of you that it is never too late to reach for your dreams. Don't let Corporate America, your parents, your peers, or the media make you feel like all you should do for the next 30 years is wake up...work...sleep…and repeat. I want to LOVE what I do every day! I want to travel the world! I want to be a guitarist (contrary to my childhood dream of being a firefighter and my teenage dream of being an Accountant...what teenager would want to be an Accountant…lol... me apparently smh). Sooooo in closing... NEVER stop fighting for YOUR dream!
